“A
charge to keep I have a God to glorify; a never dying soul to save,
and fit it for the sky. To serve the present age, my calling to
fulfill; O may it all my powers engage, to do my Master’s will.”
Charles
Wesley
Since the celebration of the Third Anniversary of the Palmetto
Missionary Baptist Church on October 3-4 2009, the Spirit of the
Lord has enabled us to continue to do God’s will through prayer,
worship, praise, fellowship, bible study and servant evangelism
throughout this community, the state and the nation.
Among the highlights of our year are the following events: The
Initial Sermon of Sister Katrina Reaves was delivered on Sunday,
December 6, 2009 in a Spirit-filled service attended by Reverend Dr.
Marion Aldridge of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of South
Carolina, Reverend Lindsey Inman of Rivertown Baptist Church, and
Reverend Wayne Spain of Touching Lives, Saving Souls Ministry, among
other clergy, family and friends.
The
Year 2010 began with our congregation listening to the New Testament
over forty days with the “You’ve Got the Time” initiative which
placed the audio bible in each of our homes and cars. This Faith
Comes by Hearing project also enabled us to give away more than
100 MP3 audio bibles to adults and children in our community, in
Haiti, and around the world. Our outreach and servant evangelism
projects include Free Yard sales, the Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Giveaway
with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Shoes for Africa with Mason Temple
Church of God in Christ, the Christmas Tree for Citizens Against
Spouse Abuse, our Community Mother’s Day Floral Tribute and Father’s
Day Recognition, the Food Bank initiative through Bi Lo Charities,
and our Back to school picnic with school items. We were privileged
to provide a home for a family through SHELTER HAITI.
The
life of our church was enhanced through the study chapters 1-12 of
the Book of Acts by Warren Wiersbe, followed by “The Power of the
Praying Church” by Stormie Omartian at the urging of the Holy
Spirit. This led us to a renewed and invigorated prayer life. We
prayed more intentionally than we had ever prayed as a church. We
prayed for ourselves and for others and for the expansion of the
ministry. God is faithful and answered our prayers by bringing us to
this bethel spot.
Our
Inaugural Worship service was held on Sunday, September 5, 2010.
Today we celebrate the ability to worship at anytime, to establish a
Sunday School, and to hold Bible Study, ministry and missions
meetings, community outreach, Palmetto Kids Music & Arts Academy,
Palmetto Works Organization, and Daughters of Abba all on one
campus! Praise the Lord! We further celebrated the first musical
recital given by Sister Tashi Mark and the Palmetto Kids Music and
Arts Academy, Anna’s Army Widow’s Prayer Group, our radio ministry
on Gospel 1330 AM on Saturdays, “Let’s Talk Bible” weekday teaching
ministry, and the Men’s Ministry established with the coming of our
Executive Pastor and Minister to Men, Minister George Payton.
Our
hearts were reminded of the Hope of Glory in the homegoing of our
loved ones, Brother Charlie Sessions and Reverend Covel C. Moore.
Our spirits were raised by the Baptisms of Sister Gloria Waters,
Sister Rhya Asbill, Sister Evelyn Delgado and Sister LeAnn Copeland.
Our new members include Sister Lawanna Thomas, Sister Marilyn
Cullipher, Minister George Payton, Sister Claudia Payton, Sister
Andrea Gowans, Sister Dashira Gowans, Brother Thomas Howard, Sister
TaShema Howard, Sister Crystal Howard, and Sister Jennie Butler,
five of whom are candidates for Baptism.
The CBF National Annual Meeting
in Charlotte, NC was attended by Minister Reaves, Gloria Waters,
Jackie Ginyard, Cynthia Cunningham, and Lawanna Thomas. Reverend
Adamson conducted Communion at the opening worship service and
Minister Angel Onley-Livingston participated as a worship leader.
Brother Kevin Livingston and Minister Angel Onley were married in
March and later attended a Church Planter’s Bootcamp in NC on behalf
of the church. Reverend Adamson was the preacher for the joint
Pentecost Worship Service held with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on
Sunday, May 23, 2010.
Our last worship and communion
service was held at the chapel at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on
Sunday, August 29, 2010. Our first service was held here on Sunday,
September 5, 2010. A church shower was held Saturday, September 11th;
and our first Sunday School classes September 12, 2010 with three
classes (Children – Minister Onley-Livingston and Tasha Jones; Women
– Rosa Doe and Claudia Payton; Men – Minister Payton and James
Adamson, teachers.). The Youth Night Spaghetti Supper Lock-In was
held on Friday-Saturday September 24-25, 2010 during which 16 young
people indicated a desire to be baptized! Finally, our hearts were
made to burn as Minister Richard Williams reprised his Initial
Sermon on Sunday, September 19, 2010. To God be the Glory! Amen.
